  • Charity Auction: Rare Ripper Book #2

At the 2008 Conference's close, a benevolent Robert McLaughlin gave us another item designated for the charity auction to benefit the Childhood Leukemia Foundation in memory of Jeremy Beadle.

    Up for auction:

The First Jack the Ripper Victim Photographs[by Robert J. McLaughlin

Limited edition of 100 copies, of which this is #17. Signed, inscribed and dated for the 2008 Jack the Ripper Conference.

Please check around for copies of this book to see just how elusive it is.

We did not take early bids at the conference, so you can start the bidding wherever you like.

Please post bids on this thread in at least dollar increments.

We will consider the auction completed when it has been a minimum of one week (October 23rd), and when the auction has gone 24 hours without a bid, at which point the winner will be the highest bidder.

As this is a charity auction, the bidder will pay shipping costs (type of shipping chosen by the winner, plus insurance as the winner chooses).

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Good luck!

Please see our other auction thread for another exciting item.

Just for clarification, what is the currency we should be using to bid?

I will gladly open the bidding at $20 US.

US dollars for bidding, please. I'll check with Dan for the various ways we can take payment. I know we can take PayPal payments for sure.

Thanks for bidding, Magpie. The bidding stands at $20.

I am lucky enough to have a signed copy of this book (Thanks RJM) and I can assure anyone thinking about bidding to do so.

The book is fantastic and a real eyeopener.
          Regards Mike

I have confirmed our payment options.

We can accept credit card payments through PayPal, US checks or money orders, and also UK checks.

If you need to pay with a UK check, we'll make special arrangements as to how and whom to pay. The charity itself is in the UK, so we can work something out.

Okay, you know it's a good book when it brings back Tom Wescott.

                  Good to see you, Tom.

                  Thanks, guys!

Book schmook, I'm just a collector of Robert McLaughlin autographs. Yes, it's an excellent book. I own a copy but figured another wouldn't hurt for a good cause. Our friend, Jay Erkey, seems to be Mr. Deep Pockets, so I don't know if I'll win it, but put me down for $60. The auction is for a great cause so I'm glad to see Jay around.

                    Yours truly,

                    Tom Wescott

Jay, AKA Jeff, is a longtime US conference delegate, for the record. It's good to see him posting here!

Actually it's J.A. Yerkey, and I go by Jeff or Jay as friends call me either. I agree it's a good cause so let's go to $80.00

Just a reminder that this auction also closes today, unless we receive further bids (in which case it closes when it goes 24 hours without a new bid).

Last chance! Seriously, google around and see how hard this is to find. Granted, having Robert's signature isn't the same as having 51 signatures, but I think he's worth at least 10 or so Ripperologists. Bid accordingly.

This auction ends in about one hour. All I need is ONE more bid to keep it open another 24 hrs.

It's for charity, people. And Robert McLaughlin's pride.

*I'm away for the rest of the night. If we get one more bid before 9:13 pm EST (New York time), the auction remains open. If no more bids come in before then, Jeff Yerkey wins at $80. Just to be clear.
