Hello there. Having nothing better to blog about at this present time, I've decided to create a forum filled with quotes from 3 of my favorite Jack the Ripper films. However, if any of you would like to add quotes I may have missed or some from other TV shows or movies, feel free to add. In the mean time, enjoy!
From Hell
Jack the Ripper: Why have you called me here, Netley.
Netley, the Coachman: Its just... you say only three more have to be
killed. I dont know if I can do it anymore. Its in all the
papers. Im just a simple chap, sir. Im not a great man like you.
I just dont know where I am anymore.
Jack the Ripper: There, there Netley. I shall tell you where we are.
Were in the darkest region of the human brain, a radiant abyss
where men go to find themselves.
Netley, the Coachman: I dont understand, sir.
Jack the Ripper: Hell, Netley. We are in hell.
Polly Nichols: [in Jack the Rippers carriage] That was the thing
that was in my dream. Whats it called again?
Jack the Ripper: Cleopatras Needle.
Polly Nichols: Cleopatra, she was a beauty.
Jack the Ripper: They were carved 1500 years before the son of God
was born. Six men died to bring it here from Egypt. [kills Polly]
Abberline: I want every veterinarian, butcher, furrier in the
district interviewed.
Constable Withers: Furrier? What he do, sir? Skin her?
Abberline: He disemboweled her. Removed her stomach, intestines
Peter Godley: You do not f**k with the Special Branch, they f**k with you!
Peter Godley: "From Hell." Well, at least they got the address right.
Sergeant Peter Godley: You've seen something? What did you see?
Frederick Abberline: A petticoat saturated with blood.
Sergeant Peter Godley: You know, they used to burn men like you alive
Frederick Abberline: You're physician in ordinary to the Queen entrusted with the well-being of the heir to the throne. Only you had reason to believe that these unfortunates, these whores, these traitors destroyed your life's work.
Sir William Gull/Jack the Ripper: Below the skin of history are London's veins. These symbols, the mitre, the pentacle star — even someone as ignorant and degenerate as you can sense that they course with energy and meaning. I am that meaning. I am that energy. One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th century.
Frederick Abberline: You're not going to see the 20th century.
William Gull/Jack the Ripper: No man amongst you is fit to judge the mighty art that I have wrought. Your rituals are empty oaths you neither understand nor live by.The Great Architect speaks to me. He is the balance, where my deeds are weighed and judged. Not you.
Jack The Ripper (1988):
[Sgt Godley wakes up a hungover Chief Inspector Abberline]
Godley: Chief Superintendent Arnold wants to see you.
Abberline: Arnold? Does he know where I am?
Godley: No, but hes about the only policeman in Scotland Yard who
doesnt!
[Godley and Abberline are in a cab heading for Bucks Row]
Godley: So what else did Old Bootface have to say?
Abberline: Detective Chief Superintendent Arnold thinks I need a
rest.
Godley: Rest? Ive never heard it called that before!
Abberline: Anyway, I like Whitechapel.
Godley: Oh good, cause one day theyll send you back here,
permanently, end of a brilliant career.
Abberline: Dont start George, not now.
Godley: L Well, why do you do it, Fred? We all like a drink now and
again, but give you a bottle and...
Abberline: Alright, George, youve had your say.
[Abberline and Godley enter Whitechapel Police Station]
Abberline: Be it ever so humble...
Godley: Theres no place like home.
[Godley asks for Inspector Spratling]
Spratling: Youve found him! Who are you?
Godley: Sgt Godley, Sir. Scotland Yard.
Spratling: Scotland Yard. Ho ho. Well, well, well, a real detective
from Scotland Yard, come to tell us how to do our jobs, Kerby. Sgt
Godley, is it? Dear oh dear, sergeants round here make the tea.
Abberline: [Appearing from the office behind Spratling] What do
Inspectors do?
Spratling: Abberline!
Abberline: Well need a clean office, George, that ones filthy.
[Spots Kerby] Sgt Kerby, is it? George takes sugar in his tea, I
dont.
[Chief Superintendent Arnold is complaining to Abberline about the
press reports]
Abberline: Im not responsible for the papers!
Arnold: No, youre responsible to me! And I want this case closed,
Inspector!
Abberline: Yes, and why is that, Chief Superintendent? Mary Nicholls
was a shilling whore. She wasnt killed for money, she didnt have
any, her neighbours dont remember any enemies, and according to
the doctor, she wasnt even sexually assaulted, yet somebody tore
her to pieces in the streets!
Arnold: So find him.
Abberline: Do you want the killer, or will anybody do?
[Godley is scuffling with a pub customer, when Abberline walks up]
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: Who is he?
Sgt. George Godley: I dont know, but Im taking him in. [looking at
Abberline] Wait a minute, how long have you been out here?
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: Well, I looked in, but you seemed to
be doing alright.
Sgt. George Godley: Oh, thanks!
[Godley pulls the man upright]
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: [grining] Hello, Billy boy!
Billy White, Pimp: I didnt know he was one of yours, Mr Abberline,
honest, I didnt!
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: But youre one of mine, arnt you
Billy?
Billy White, Pimp: I dont know nothing, honest, Mr Abberline. Id
tell you if I did, wouldnt I?
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: Yes, youd tell me. Let him go,
George. Well pick him up tomorrow if we need him
[Godley releases Billy, who walks off with a nasty look on his face]
Sgt. George Godley: [walking in the oposite direction] One of your
snouts?
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: [walking alongside Godley] Like his
father before him. [looking behind him] Nothing changes!
Richard Mansfield: You don't think I'm caught up in all that, do you?
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: All of what? I would just like to meet the man who gave you your other face! The man who looks like Mr. Hyde! And you're going to introduce us...NOW!!!
George Lusk: The names Lusk, George Lusk. Chairman of the...
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: Chairman of the so-called Vigilante
committee. I wondered when you were going to show your face!
George Lusk: Ill show you more than a face Abberline! Ill show you
a hundred armed men!
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: [the first meeting with George Lusk]
Un-plug your ears Lusk, because Im going to tell you something! I
grew up with these people! They matter to me, I know what matters
to you! Its written all over your face: "POWER"! So take my advice
and go home! The Revolution may not start this week!
Sgt. George Godley: [after Abberlines rant against Lusk] That was a
bit harsh, wasnt it?
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: Only a bit? I must be losing my
touch!
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: You told me to bring you Jack the
Ripper - you sign that bit of paper, and I will... Tonight
Sgt. George Godley: It's Gull!
Sir William Gull/Jack The Ripper: Let me go! You're ruining it! This experiment! The mind! The mind!
Sgt: George Godley: He's mad!
Sir William Gull/Jack the Ripper: They're only whores!! They're only worthless whores!!! You're destroying it all!
[after finding out Warren intends to cover-up the fact that Gull was Jack The Ripper]
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: What did you expect?
Sgt. George Godley: Justice! That's what I expected! Straight-forward bloody justice!
Chief Insp. Frederick Abberline: Then you should've let me shoot him. Shouldn't ya?...Shouldn't ya?
Time After Time:
H.G. Wells: My name is H.G. Wells. I came here in a time machine of
my own construction. I am pursuing Jack the Ripper, who escaped
into the future in my machine.
[Jack the Ripper uses the Time Machine to travel to 1979]
H.G. Wells: What... have... I... done? Ive turned that bloody maniac
loose upon Utopia!
[H.G. Wells tracks down Jack the Ripper in the future]
Jack the Ripper: You are, quite literally, the last person on Earth
that I expected to see.
Jack the Ripper: Ninety years ago I was a freak. Today Im an
amateur.
[John demonstrates to H.G. that 1979 isnt a social utopia]
Jack the Ripper: The future isnt what you thought. Its what I am!
Jack the Ripper: We dont belong here? On the contrary, Herbert. I
belong here completely and utterly. Im home.
Jack the Ripper: And at dinner last... century, I thought you'd lost
your wits.
Jack the Ripper: Its catching isnt it, violence
H.G. Wells: Do you still insist that this is all poppycock?
Amy Robbins: Thats not exactly the word I had in mind.
Jack The Ripper:"My mother was an atrocious woman, but that did not include the raising of mentally deficient sons."
