Nope. There's still no date for it. That would have been announced by now if it still had a chance of being released this year.

Remember the first episode script leaked online months ago. It didn't instill much hope, went grimdark and desperate to be edgey instead of being actually dark and grim. That might have been changed though.

My guess, from my long experience as a "Doctor Who" fan, is that it might need to air first in the U.K. or Europe, before we in the States get it. But I don't really know...

A number of years have passed since the publication of Caleb Carr's The Alienist in 1994 but its interesting to see it finally coming to the screen. I'm impressed with the trailer and trust that the series will live up to its promise.

I hadn't thought about this before but if we are talking about male victims rather than female, and relocation from London to New York City, this is the Whitechapel Murders meet Cleveland Street in America. Think about that.

the music is really what ruins everything. pretty much all the really critically successful but also well done movies or series just don't use scores like this, like look at the knick the music is ambient the musical texture works and its not overused so when it is used its great. but i guess that what happens when you have someone from beefheart's band do the score.

this show would be instantly highly acclaimed if it had no score

I would also fault the production for all the scenes shot on dark streets, which suggests that the producers thought they needed that to create the mood, rather than having the action and suspense move the story along. It makes the show feel like a "set up" -- i.e., this is how you are supposed to feel, viewers. To my mind, that's playing down to the audience.

It's similar to how in tellings of the Ripper story of 1888, so many producers and directors think there has to be fog. . .
