Host of show in semi-retirement

Hi all,

As should be apparent by now, due to work and family obligations I am in semi-retirement from hosting the podcast. I simply do not have the time to organize and edit the shows on a regular basis. I will record and release new shows as good ideas present themselves and if I can rally enough participants, or if I coax an individual (or if an individual volunteers) to come on for a one-on-one episode. Hint-One on one shows are the easiest for me to record and edit so I'm more likely to do those. But, in the absence of interesting one-on-ones, the podcast will occur on a not so frequent basis.

If anyone believes that they have the chops to fill my shoes in between times, which includes coming up with not redundant topics, booking more than 3 participants, subject and show preparation, technical aspects with the software involved, editing the show afterwards, etc. Please contact myself, or the podcast's benefactor, Stephen Ryder. I'm sure if you are well versed in the case and can remain impartial (or if not impartial, at least interesting) then guest hosts can participate in the show as a host.

I for one hope Ally Ryder can figure the hosting aspects out, as she possesses the best alternative voice for the show IMO, and would make for some very interesting listening.

All that said, if it is still left up to me to produce future podcasts and we can find no replacement, expect them on an every once in a while basis. But when I do record a new episode, I guarantee that it will be worth the wait. However long that wait becomes.

As someone who has (I believe) listened to every one of the podcasts, I thank you for the service you've provided thus far and hope that you continue to find the time, when available, to continue creating these wonderful resources.

I know that he's overloaded with JTR work of his own, but Howard Brown would make a wonderful host of the podcasts. Perhaps he and Ally can co-host (sort of like the Rippercast version of Regis and Kelly).

Hi Jonathon,

I got confused I think when you came out with the Stewart as I thought that meant you had sorted out your difficulties and were prepared to re-start as I hadn't heard anything from you prior.

I would be happy to attempt to get the gang back together and try a co-hosting podcast, but I do think we need someone neutral to anchor my bitchy ways. I'll see what I can do about rounding up some nice folks. I did get some volunteers back in the day and I'll contact them again, as I said I just got confused as, just when I was set to go, you came back with Stewart and I thought "Ah good Jonathon's back".


Of course the laptop I had all my programs downloaded on just went to the angels due to a nasty virus and I am temporarily using a borrowed one, but I should have my tech issues sorted out in a couple of weeks when my brand new shiny arrives.

I'll start contacting the people and see what we can get going.

Hi Ally,

SPE was a one on one that was easy to organize, edit, and a pleasure to do. And I'll do more of those (one is in the works now). So I'll continue to pop out one on one interviews as they arise and the occasional group show if I can gather enough participants.

A call out for this weekends Spring-Heeled-Jack episode, for instance, garnered only two positive replies. Two too few, IMO.

I would like to see the show out on a more often basis, and so a replacement who has access to the goods would be great to fill the gaps.

Of course that might have occurred at the same time my computer went to hell so I might have just missed it, in which case, my bad, I definitely would have joined. The last few weeks or so have been ...a trial. I got a virus a couple of weeks ago that i thought I had killed but it was apparently just laying dormant...and kept coming back to do damage til it finally killed it good.

Anyway, bygones. I'll try to set up a user friendly schedule for people and we'll set up springheel for a date you can join.

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to do the Rippercast on a regular basis anymore, but it's certainly understandable when you have both a family and a job to consider. I'm sure everyone appreciates all the stellar work you have always done on Rippercast.

I particularly enjoyed your one-on-one interview with Stewart, and as you also said that those podcasts are the simplest to edit, I would love to hear more of them.

I enjoy learning how individuals from different walks of life who live all over the world came to take an interest in the Ripper case, and which aspects of the case or of the LVP most intrigue them.
I don't think the conversation necessarily needs to be a discussion of the Ripper crimes per se to be interesting; I quite enjoy learning about various 'offshoot' fields of interest.

As you know, the Ripper case makes a handy "point of entry" for exploring the past, whatever ones personal tastes might be. Some individuals gravitate towards subjects like the social history or literature of the Victorian era, and others explore the past via art, photography or by collecting antiques and memorabilia related to their area of special interest.
(Personally, I'm curious about almost everything.)

> One potential Rippercast topic that has occurred to me is Edgar Allan Poe, and Chris George is an expert on that subject. It would be fun to hear about Poe's life and work, his impact on popular interest in crime and horror as well as the development of the detective novel, conflicting theories about his mysterious death, the murder of "The Beautiful Cigar Girl," and of course the yearly Baltimore Poe Festival.

Sorry I had to jib out this week - I guess I'm in semi-retirement too... from the podcast, that is, sadly not "real" work You've done a great job as host, editor and producer, and you'll be a tough act to follow. I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping you'll still be able to continue to contribute to the podcasts going forward.
