  • Since the worldwide disaster that was Apple's MobileMe/iPhone 3G roll-out, every single webpage hosted by what was dotmac is now experiencing major problems. In the case of the podcast's site, this comes in the form of all 21 episodes not appearing at all. You can still download episodes from iTunes, but what this means when I attempt to publish today's podcast I do not know.

I will try to upload todays show as normal and hope that it appears in everyones feed. If not, then I may wait it out and hope Apple corrects the glitch and in the meantime upload the show to the podcast's public folder and post a link to it on this thread. I'll update the situation...

That being said, today's podcast will feature the talent behind the best Ripper film site on the web, Cindy Collins Smith from www.hollywoodripper.com.

We thank Cindy for agreeing to come on the show today!

    Stay tuned...

        • It was a great show and nice to chat with Cindy. She has an amazing knowledge of ripper films and spin offs, not to mention an excellent website.

          • Thanks Mike,

Your info on the new Wolfman movie with Benicio Del Toro vs. Abberline was especially welcome. I had seen screen shots but had no idea that they were incorporating JtR into the Wolfman plot. Thanks as always for being a part of the show, from episode 1 on...

            • I am a big horror movie fan, and love the monster movies of old, so when I heard it was on the way I was quite excited. Del Toro is quite a dark actor and has a brooding intensity that will hopefully play out in the film.

The unusual step they have taken is naming Hugo Weaving's charector, Aberline, and not Abberline, hopefully to avoid any slur's against the real Abberline! I just hope that he isn't portrayed as some sort of junkie, psychic drunk!

And like I said, I will always help and supprt the podcasts, health permitting. You have done a great service to the community and brought people together, that would not have come together had it not being for you.
              Regards Mike

              • Hugo Weaving (as Aberline) is likely to kick Benicio Del Toro's ass several times before the Wolfman is finally bludgeoned to death by an elderly Sir Anthony Hopkins.

                Can't wait.

                • Del Toro was fantastic as Freddie Fenster, in the Usual Supsects, a really dark crook, with an equally dark past!

The second he speaks in that movie sends shivers down my spine. I don't think they will let Hugo do bullet time in Victorian London.
                  Regards Mike

                  • Although I love The Usual Suspects, Del Toro in Traffic and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is some of the best acting I've seen.

                    Wolfman?

                    Eh....

Hi guys! Thanks for having me on the podcast. Now I'm going to have to go back and write a blog post or two to complete some of my answers!

I took Mike's advice and re-set my membership in the Casebook forum. So now I'm able to get in again. Thanks, Mike!

BTW... love Del Toro in Traffic. Also love the movie. It should have been Traffic or Crouching Tiger for the Oscar that year... not Gladiator.

I need to see The Usual Suspects again. I've only seen it once a long time ago and didn't know Del Toro at the time, so I'm not sure which character he is. A good excuse to revisit that movie, don't you think?

                      • The Usual Suspects is one of my fave films and the ending still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

He also appeared in "Year of the gun" which was possibly his worst film. It had a good premise but was just dull, and I usually enjoy action films!

I am glad you got your account sorted Cindy, and must say Welcome back.
                        Regards Mike

                          • Benicio Del Toro did win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Traffic. It didn't win for Best Picture (Gladiator won that), but it did win for supporting actor, and director and a couple other awards (writing and editing).

As far as Alan Moore and the movies go, Moore has refused any money from any of his now four films (From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V For Vendetta, and now The Watchmen) due to his distaste for the Hollywoodizing of his stories. He instead has the producers give any money he would have gotten to the artists of the graphic novels, for example Eddie Campbell for "From Hell", Dave Gibbons for "The Watchmen" and so on. Although he has expressed how increasingly difficult it is to refuse the money, as there's a lot of money to refuse.

                            • Actually I was under the impression that he only decided to give the option money up AFTER League and the resulting lawsuit. So the money would be for V and Watchmen only. However, as he's already sold the rights to all his major works in one way or another, his protestations that he wouldn't sell anymore are rather...hollow. He's basically a whining prima donna little beetch.
