    Which gap John ?
The one if the seaside Home equates to the 1890 stay at workhouse?

If so, it's that the phrase used by Swanson is highly subjective, and no explanation is required.
Clearly it says he was being watched, one could speculate as to why and what for.

You don't agree, that's fine, I respect your view on Kosminski, even if I don't agree

If another gap, just specify and I will attempt to answer.

Do we have any examples from that time of Cohens who changed their names from Kosminski?

Much of the information about Aaron Kosminski was supplied by Jacob Cohen of 51 Carter Lane to Dr Houchin at the time of Aaron's commitment to Colney Hatch in February 1891.

On 9 July 1891 a partnership between Thomas Coughtrey Davies, Jacob Cohen and Woolf Abrahams (presumably Aaron's brother-in-law), "carrying on business as Mantle Manufacturers, at 51, Carter-lane, in the city of London, under the style or firm of Davies, Cohen, and Company" was dissolved.

There is a good chance that Jacob Cohen was a Kosminski, if he came from the same town in Poland.

Woolf was Aaron's full brother, Jacob Cohen was very probably not only the business partner of Woolf, but the brother of Woolf's wife Betsy( people get confused because of Woolf and Aaron also having a sister Betsy, and Woolf using Abrahams. Sugden made the same mistake btw.)

It's also very possible that Both Jaob and his sister were cousins of Aaron and Woolf.
A good guide to the family can be found in the Ripperologist article, New Light on Aaron Kosminski, by Pat Marshall & Chris Phillips. Issue#128.

                Hi John,
Several explanations, the one which cannot be disputed is serial killers don't kill to a set pattern. Let's use the Yorkshire Ripper case, there are murders that are very close together and ones that are far further apart than Kelly to Mackenzie.

2nd, which is based on speculation, is that just as Cox and Sagar suggested a suspect went into what appears to be voluntary admission at an asylum.
Mac of course also suggests a date of early 1889 for admission to.an asylum for his Kosminski.

There the theory looked at by many Kosminski researchers is that he was placed in an asylum in Feb/March 89, by either family or friends, this was a voluntary admission, which the family or friends had to pay for. Such were often, for fixed periods, so he goes in for say 3 months , and is released to kill Alice.

As I said the second option is speculation, but based on comments of police officers.
The 1st option I would suggest really cannot be ignored, serial killers have gaps, and even stop( Ridgeway).

                  Hi Steve.

Thanks for the reply. I however still find the gap between Kelly and MacKenzie problematic.

                  Cheers John

I wonder if there is something wrong with the file for Ripperologist #128?

If one downloads it from the current Ripperologist website, one only gets "Red Lines and Purple Pencil"--Adam Wood and Keith Skinner's long article on the Swanson Marginalia.

The other articles, include the one you mention by Pat Marshall and Chris Phillips, don't come up.

Maybe the file was somehow corrupted?

I think I have the original download on another computer, so I'll check there when I get the time.

                      And that's perfectly fine.
