  • Comparison of statements made by Sarah Lewis and Mrs. Kennedy

Attached is a comparison of statements made by Sarah Lewis and Mrs. Kennedy following the murder of Mary Jane Kelly.

Sarah Lewis’s statement was sworn testimony at the Kelly inquest on Monday, November 12th. Mrs. Kennedy’s statement was made directly to journalists, apparently on Saturday, November 10th.

There are some variances in the published versions of Mrs. Lewis’s statement, as noted in the comparison. There are no variances in the half-dozen published versions of Mrs. Kennedy’s statement that I’ve reviewed.

Excellent work, Belloc! This reminds me of the parallel readings that New Testament scholars have found so useful. And it's very useful here, too; clearly the two stories are from one and the same source and refer to the same basic events.
      Kind regards, Sam Flynn

Indeed, but the important bit is the clear use of a false name indicating guilt: it must be Jill the Ripper!
