Red face...
Yeah I thought about Blotchy too Mr. Abby Normal....Blotchy perhaps?
On another thread a poster surmised that our red faced man worked in a foundry..........perhaps MJK week he got too close to the fire and blotches were raised on his face.....?

unless he was a sailorOriginally posted by GregBaron View PostIt's tough to get scorched in London in November as someone pointed out about Ada Wilson's attacker in March....
Perhaps he was a Metro and used a tanning bed......!

A sailor after all...
Now we're talking........I remember someone analyzed the comings and goings of ship lines at the appropriate time..........I believe they had the theory that it was some sailor that was killing zillions wherever he went...a German I think........can't remember his name...........I don't think it's him(the evidence lacked) but maybe one of his shipmates..........unless he was a sailor

Hi Greg,
If Hutchinson was the man seen by Sarah Lewis, he would have been "not tall, but stout", in addition to wearing a wideawake, which was unlikely to have been the only hat in his possession. As for his alleged "military appearance", I formed the impression that this owed more to his posture and carriage than clothing, as his appearance was also suggestive of someone "apparently from the labouring class". What little we know of Hutchinson's appearance is not at odds with the descriptions proffered by Lawende, Schwartz, Lewis, Cox, Wilson and others.Hutchinson(smart military appearance…wideawake hat……..do we know anymore of his description?)
All the best,

Grazie gentlemen...
Thanks Ben, Hutch may be one of the few that can't be ruled out by Lawende's description.....If Hutchinson was the man seen by Sarah Lewis, he would have been "not tall, but stout", in addition to wearing a wideawake, which was unlikely to have been the only hat in his possession. Thanks Monty, yeah, it all comes flooding back now like a bad dream.............

There are two witnesses who describe a man with the appearance of a sailor (Marshall re Stride & Lawende re Eddowes). "such as a sailor would wear" & "appearance of a sailor". Neither witness says his man was a sailor, only that such was his appearance. The Ripper is a man who wishes to attract the attention of prostitutes. What better way - in the East End - than to assume the appearance of a sailor on shore leave - ie a man likely to have plenty of cash to throw around?I won't always agree but I'll try not to be disagreeable.

Sailor disguise?
A good point Bridewell..........I suppose a sailor might have a few shekels in his pocket......but the suggestion that JTR may have donned disguises is another matter entirely..............this suggests a high level of organization and planning not to mention access to resources...this has been discussed before and of course opinions are divided........good thinking though...There are two witnesses who describe a man with the appearance of a sailor (Marshall re Stride & Lawende re Eddowes). See thats what I don't get, why would you or anyone think a living breathing male would need to put any effort into getting the attention of a prostitute?Originally posted by Bridewell View Post...The Ripper is a man who wishes to attract the attention of prostitutes. Sailors were more often broke than wealthy, and besides sailors were known to be a rough breed.
I just think the above quote harbored a false premiss, but maybe thats just me.

Little credence for the sailor...
Well, even our revered profiler John Douglass believed the same thing Wickerman till he was disavowed of the notion. I tend to agree with you here though using the old 'beggars can't be choosers' adage. What I find more intriguing is Lawende's description which is of a 'rough looking' sailor. I don't know why so many disregard this. To again quote our favorite profiler......the killer of Eddowes may not have been Carl Feigenbaum but it's probably someone very much like him....See thats what I don't get, why would you or anyone think a living breathing male would need to put any effort into getting the attention of a prostitute?
