    Louis Deimshitz where were you?

Why did Louis D enter Berner Street via Commercial Road if he had just come from Crystal Palace?

Now, that is really a very, very specific historical question!

Because, after midnight, you stick to the main roads.

        Hi Dusty
He would have crossed the Thames at London Bridge, Tower Bridge not being opened until 1894.
The most direct route from there would be up King William street, cross to Great Church street, right into Fenchurch street on to Aldgate High street and eventually Whitechapel High street before turning into Commercial Road. This was probably the quickest and certainly safest route.
