      Merci

Amazing work, Rivkah. I now have something to think of instead of the horror.
From Voltaire writing in Diderot's Encyclopédie:
"One demands of modern historians more details, better ascertained facts, precise dates, , more attention to customs, laws, commerce, agriculture, population."

Glad to help. I'm actually going to keep working on this, and try to keep improving it. If anyone has any suggestions, from a change in hair color, or the shape of the nose, or just generally "I've always pictured this; I don't know why," to some detail I didn't pick up from studying the meat-grinder photo, feel free to offer it. Also, I think I have read all the existing written descriptions of MJK, but maybe someone knows of an obscure one, or recently discovered one that I may have missed.

I think her skin is too clear and blemish free given the life she was living.

I think her attractiveness would have had to have been relative to the other prostitutes that you might see in Whitechapel. If she were really that attractive I would think she would have gone the sugar daddy route.

Obviously a case of great minds.

Her temperament may have made this difficult.

No doubt. Actually, I have noticed that we do seem to hold similar views for the most part.

It's hard to add blemishes; most software is designed to remove them. I'll have to deliberately search for bad skin to morph with the picture.

It's funny everyone thinks she's so pretty. I just thought she was mildly attractive.

                          Typical appearance

I don't think there is a typical Welsh appearance. Who would you take as the norm? Shirley Bassey? Antony Hopkins? Bryn Terfel? Gwyneth Jones?

And Mary (according to what she told people) was Irish by birth and moved to Wales with her family as a baby. Always a good idea to check your facts.

Typical Irish appearance? No, no more than there is a typical American appearance. Many different types.

And yes, it is possible to learn a new language as a child. My granddaughter (6) speaks Swedish, English and Chinese.

Is there software to make Mary look less vapid?

                          Best wishes

Rivkah, I think you've done a very good job. Her neighbours/ friends at the time couldn't even agree on the colour of Mary's hair, or whether she looked older than her purported age, so I don't think we are going to come to any consensus on what she really looked like. As far as Mary's skin goes I don't think she was hideously pockmarked or anything of that description, perhaps a bit of discolouration due to drink, and perhaps spots and a mole or two! Just kidding!
