November 9 - RIP Mary

RIP Mary, and all the other victims, canonical and otherwise. Usually I remember these anniversaries but this year it completely slipped my mind. Thanks for starting the thread.
The canonical and otherwise comment is snarky but raises a question. I noticed on an older thread that the grave markers of some of the canonical victims had "heritage trail" on them and appeared relatively new. Shame for Tabram, I suppose.

I've started anniversary threads before and I knew this one was coming, but I dropped the ball just enough to gloss over it on the exact day. My apologies to Mary Jane, but I had a good talk with her beside her grave in 2008 to let her know how I feel. So many gifts are left for her on that grave. I think she knows she is remembered.

Whitechapel Eulogy: 13 Miller's Court
EULOGY FOR MARY ANN KELLY
Mary Jane (Marie Jeanette),
Dear soul, we scarcely know the truth
Of your beginnings-- did you first see Ireland or Wales,
Did your family live well or poorly-- yet we know too
Well the truth of your life's ending.
And as those who saw how he left you,
Looked at your body with horror, and with pity,
So all these years later, we remember you still,
How a young woman with a merry spirit,
And a generous heart,
Was left in her bed, bloodied and flayed,
Cut open, disfigured, her heart taken away...
Did you know who he was, the man with the knife,
He who took your life,
As careless as another might swat a fly?
Dear Mary, we have not forgotten you,
Nor shall we ever,
Each November the ninth, we who know
Will pray for your soul and hope you found
Peace at last.

I hope at least a few people will have a drink in the Ten Bells today in Mary's honor, and stand out front for a moment on "Mary's Corner" looking up at the tower of Christchurch. I did so in 2008. You can feel her strong there if you are open to it, which can not be said of the nearby spot where she died so horribly. Rest in peace Mary, once again and as always.

Absolutely-God Bless Mary Kelly. She proves that in the most harshest and unforgiving environments that their is hope, kindness and humanity. I wrote this in honor of her memory:
Black city sidewalks bleed soft parades
Shadows play strange charades
I hear her singing down the way
A lovely sad serenade
Her red hair
Her pale skin
sweet the troubles of the soothing gin
The angels wept cold tears of rain
but he just smiled and smiled again
I see him standing by the broken pane
From hell he is and come again
Her warm smile
her good heart
She was kind in an unkind part
The fire glowed out its lonely light
To the court yard of the night
and when she passed- the devils sight
beheld a bird on heavens flight
Mary Kelly

quite tallies with the descriptions I got of him."
