  • Was she asleep?

Having seen a video of the JTR Museum, where the presenter suggested the victims might have been asleep, it made me think. Obviously Polly through Kate are unlikely (although Martha is possible), was MJK asleep either alone or with company who was her killer. We know that she was right over on one side of the bed and had undressed herself given the clothes and blood pool evidence, why is this? If she was entertaining by the hour, it seems an odd position for her to take, especially as she’d been trained by her own claims. Could she have offered a boyfriend experience (“you’ll be comfortable”), or had she finished working and had settled in her normal place expecting Joe or AN Other to join her at some point (even if just out of habit)? In the latter case the killer would have had to know how to gain access, suggesting he had been there earlier.

Given Kate’s comment about being late and Liz appearing to be waiting for someone, I wonder if Jack had already met his targets?

The idea that the victims were found and/or killed while they were asleep seems to have been cooked up by author Hallie Rubenhold as a frankly desperate means of refuting the idea that they might have been soliciting for sex. Whether they were or weren't engaged in prostitution, it seems highly unlikely that any of them were sleeping when Jack happened to find them.

Hi Sam, I don’t doubt that Polly, Anne, Kate and Liz were awake when Jack started his attack. My suspicion is with Mary Jane as she seems to have been initially attacked in a slightly odd position if she was awake and entertaining…

If she had been asleep and the killer came back, it would open up a lot of potential windows that currently appear closed. Of course there may be other reasons for her position on one extreme side of the bed facing the wall, but I wonder if being asleep was one of them. It would certainly explain the minimal noise in her case.
