  • Anatomical Venus

A correspondent of mine has provided me with this thought she would like me to share on the forums.

Not sure if this has ever been mentioned previously, but the wax models known as 'Anatomical Venus', which were popular from the 18th century onwards, bear a striking resemblance to how MJK's body was found. It could be argued MJK was posed as such and the scene may have been inspired by such a model.

The example below is from the late 1700s.

Michael Hawley has discussed exactly this in both books and public lectures over the years.

I gather that these wax models are an explicit part of Lechmere theory, not all of which has yet been made public.

In terms of its illumination of the MJK murder scene, the colour photo in Christer Holmgren's book is itself worth the cover price.

Fisherman, aka Christer holmgren, has put forth in his book and on here that the anatomical venus displays in the museums at the time were the inspiration for the torsoripper crimes. IMHO its an intriguing theory and not without merit.

Quite, it's prominently displayed on the back cover. I agree, it's an intriguing theory. Unfortunately, what it gains in merit is counterbalanced by it's lacking any support. Certainly not a stronger aspect of the Lechmere candidacy.

yeah, nothing really ties it to lechmere or tje torso/ripper in general. however, the nature of the crimes do. but alas, it is theory forever consigned to speculation limbo.

All I have is documented proof that an anatomical venus was on display at the Liverpool Museum of Human Anatomy in 1877.

Ero -- Shirley Harrison already treaded down this path in the 1990s, noting that Maybrick once lived up the street from an anatomical museum.

I know. I didn't claim the museum is new information.

I am claiming proof of anatomical venus on display in the exact same museum in 1877 is new information.

RJ was very kind to privately show me that Shirley Harrison references the 1877 catalogue in "The American Connection". A book that, to be honest barely registered with me among the various reading materials I have consumed around Maybrick and JTR. It also mentions wax models but not the anatomical Venus specifically.

There, hope that helps everyone sleep easy.
