Am i correct in thinking that the bed upon which Mary died remained in the room and was slept in by the next occupant ? surely the mattrass needed replacing ?

I think you'll find that Mary's remains were placed in a shell (coffin-like box) and carried out and placed on a cart to be taken to the mortuary.

I read in one of the papers that her body was stitched together before being placed in a coffin. That would have been a difficult job.
