    Hi everyone,

I think it's a well established fact there there were a great many accents spoken in the area at the time. However, without wishing to labour the point, Barnett gave us the greatest insight into Mary's possible origins ("She said she was born in Ireland but moved to Wales as a child") but there does seem to be a hint of uncertainty about it that surely an accent would have been able to clarify? I can see though, why it might not have occurred to people to mention it.

As to whether the woman seen by Mrs Maxweel was Mary, I think the suggestion by Carroty Nell - that it was actually one of the women Mary had at one time accommodated in her room is very plausible - especially if the women had swapped or shared names, as it seems they sometimes did. After all, Maxwell testified to having spoken to Mary only twice before.
