  • Please delete if this is old ground...

    Hello - Newbie here!

So sorry, there is just SO much on this site (which is brilliant most of the time!) that I don't know whether my findings have been found and discussed before or not...

Please delete this thread if I cover old ground!!!

I took my notes on Kelly and spent some time searching possibles (even to the degree of putting Davis/Davies as a first name - please don't discount that any better rearchers than I as I'm Welsh myself - I was in school with a "Griffith Griffiths" and have since met a "Griffith Hopkins". SHOULD "Davis/Davies" (but, as a Welsh speaker considering a first name I would suggest Davis) be a surname???) and this is what I found:

    1881 Census Wales:

    John Kelly, 36 b.Ireland
    Mary Kelly, 37 b.Ireland
Llanbeblig, Caernarvonshire - 2 William Street
Occ. Gen Lab (this is 1881 though - not 1888 - could he have later worked with iron?)
    John Kelly 14 son
    Dennis Kelly 10 son
    Daniel Kelly 9 son
    Joseph Kelly 6 son
    Igntiss 3 son
James (no age - suspect under one) son
Winefred (no age - suspect under one) daughter
    (ALSO:Wn. Owen Lodger b. 1854
    David Jones Lodger b. 1858)

Mary "married" about 1879 so could have left home...is it possible "Henry" is between her and John/older and has left too? I don't know whether anybody has considered this family a possible or not in the past but that's a lot of boys and only one girl...It is also common to name children after parents so, if there was an older daughter, would she too be a "Mary" I wonder given the speed of this family...is "Henry" really the youngest AFTER Winefred and "Mary Jane" uses his name rather than an older brother?

I don't know the answers, this research is possibly futile without a grain of truth from Mary, but I'm putting it on site IN CASE...

In the same breath I'm putting the following on site IN CASE as, though not Wales/Ireland, I found the following on the 1871 English census for Mary Jane Kelly whilst searching and thought her father's "other names" a tad odd (if not a little familiar!):

Mary Jane Kelly born abt. 1862 Ireland
    Father: John Kelly
    Other: Michael (Henry)
    Living in Hampshire

I feel a bit daft already starting a new thread on this as I'm pretty sure all has been found already in this massive (but fantastic!) site...I'm working on "IN CASE" in posting but am pressing "send" before I go and hide under my sofa in shame!

    All the best,
    C.
