I Would think that prostitutes who tended to drink far too much would be the most easily acquired prey for sOmeone out late at night looking to kill an easy victim to express his dominance - I suspect that was what it was all about but don't ask me to prove it...

Harry:
"I doubt that being a prostitute or a drunk was a reason the women were selected as victims."
I actually think that BOTH factors may well have fuelled the Ripperīs wish to kill them.
Donīt ask me to prove it, though ...
The best,
Fisherman

I doubt that being a prostitute or a drunk was a reason the women were selected as victims.
I should think that the reason that they needed to prostitute themselves was because they were drunks that needed money to feed their addiction.

I'm oldsh,my sons are middleaged,my grandchildren are young, and my great grandchildren are children. What's age got to do with it?If prostitute seems a reasonable description to enter on a woman's death certificate, wouldn't 'Drunk' be applicable as well.To some that post here that is.
I doubt that being a prostitute or a drunk was a reason the women were selected as victims.

But , obviously the bummer is that the more age I add, the more dosh I'll have to offer 'toy boys', and I'm fairly brassic.
Still looking for the answer.
Oh. There isn't one.
Back to Jack the Ripper, then.Last edited by Rubyretro; 05-24-2012, 11:36 PM.

You want to know what the '$64,000 question' is? It's something old people say, because that show's been off the air for 50 years!

The point is I don't think the roadworkers would be able to be on the job while being on the job.
I see that Catherine Walters was connected to Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire, the elder brother of Lord Frederick Cavendish who was murdered in Phoenix Park... perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned that.

I haven't seen a reference to women coming up to the open gates of their slaughter yard. Could you provide a link?
I think you are reading a lot into Tomkins's statements.
So you think Eddowes was murdered by someone she bumped into by some sort of luck? Or bad luck rather.
She could hardly have known when she would be released and nor could this other party have predicted where they would be able to find her at that hour.
I think she got blind drunk by selling herself. At best she did it by offering her company to a naive punter who plied her with drink in the hope of some afters, and she then did a runner but was too drunk and got arrested. It is much more likely frankly that she sold her body and promptly drank the proceeds just as Polly Nichols had done. She had been in what was clearly to her the too close restrictive company of her 'partner' John Kelly for some weeks and slipped the leash and went on the lash.

Hello Dave.
"'Isn't the $64,000 dollar question "Who sat her down and bought her the drinks?"
I think so.
"And the Million Dollar Question "Why?"'
Hmm, may be worth more than that.
Cheers.

Middle-Aged
It would be most amusing if we required a recent photo and date-of-birth here so we could all know who we're yelling at..........!
I'll confess to being 59, so definitely well into middle age (even by Tom's yardstick I suspect). Having said that, the 64-year-old bloke down the street calls me "Lad".

Hi Maria,
A guinea was one pound and one shilling, so Ģ1.05p in decimal currency. The modern equivalent would be somewhere between Ģ200 & Ģ250 I would have thought. I'll wait and see how many people agree with that as an approximation!
Regards, Bridewell.
