  • Edward Walker (father of ...)

    Hi all -

Quick query - has anyone got Edward Walker's death certificate? I'm curious about his residence at the time of his death - I assume he is the chap who died in Camberwell, South London, in 1895q3, judging by Chris Scott's previous research (click here for link). Also, I'd be interested to know who the informant of death is - if it is Edward John Nichols (Mary Ann's son, co-resident with Edward Walker in 1891), where is he living at the time? If nobody knows, I'll order the certificate and post the results.

    All assistance gratefully received!

    Regards,

    Mark

    Hey Mark,

Your request got me looking into Neal Stubbings Sheldens fantastic book - The Victims of Jack the Ripper.

He suggests Edward left an address of Maydwell St in 98 or had died there. I would say Edward John reported the death.

Maybe a mail to Neal is in order.

    Monty.

        Hi Monty -

Not to worry. I haven't got Neal's book, but I too would have thought that that would be the best place to look. It's just idle curiosity on my part, really, but you know how idle curiosity expands to fill the time available for it, and it is Sunday evening, so...

        Thanks anyway.

If he died in 1895 (50 years after his daughter was born), he must have been relatively old considering the time and the circumstances (diseases, medical possibilities etc.)

                Monty -

Yes, it sounds thoroughly unpleasant. Poor chap had it rough.
