Carthy And McCarthy?

I just realised something that I find rather interesting.

Mary Jane Kelly lived with or rented from people with almost exactly the same name.

Is this a coincidence or could there be something more to it?

This has been suggested before. I remember reading that Mrs (Mc)Carthy has been suggested as a relative of John McCarthy and that this is familiarity explains why he allowed Kelly to get behind with her rent, they had a long standing connection. Carthy is a very unusal surname and this adds credence to the idea that it was logged wrong.
