    Hello C4 aka Gwyneth,

That's what comes of having a Curious on the boards called Velma! Apologies to you both!

        Got it wrong

        Hello all,

Read the original article a tad too quickly, he was quoting someone else and it did sound odd!

It is from a magazine called Dast from 2009, he seems only to have written the one article amd I can't find anything else about or from him.

        Brst wishes,
        C4

It appears that we both had mothers who loved us?

curious aka Velma -- which is one reason I use people's screen names on the boards -- not because our mothers loved us, but to keep from calling peple by the wrong names, although that would be difficult with some on here.

            Ollson

Hello Phil. Are you perchance thinking of Liz's pastor, Ollson?

            Cheers.

" Very weird swedish I think, anyway, how about you Christer?"

No, the DAST article is written in impeccable Swedish, no doubt about that. The construction "White Chapel" owes to him having been called, in Swedish, "Vite Chappel-mördaren", and that would be a poor translation coming from the time just around 1888. Us Swedes did not speak very much English at that stage, but the one who expressed himself like that would have known that "White" meant "vit" (the colour, in Swedish), whereas he did not know that "Chapel" meant "Kapell" in Swedish, so he just translated part one of the word (the one he knew) and added a small void to the part he did NOT understand.

It sounds exactly like the manner in which Swedes treated English a hundred years ago.

              The best,
              Fisherman

                Zombie pastor?

                Hello Lynn,

Somehow I don't think he'd be up to writing an article in 2009. Unless he was a zombie and that opens up a whole new prospect for suspects, lol.

There is a Swedish part of this cemetery, opened in 1857 I believe. Why Liz wasn't buried there is unclear, unless they just wanted to get her underground asap (zombies again?) - sorry, mind going in battle with Swedish bureaucrats.

                Best wishes,

                  What's in a name?

                  Hello Gwyneth. Thanks.

No, I certainly was not suggesting that. Phil was pointing out something about that name; I was suggesting a subliminal linking on his part.

                  Cheers.

                    Hello Fisherman,

Of course you are right and I had already confessed my mistake!

No excuse, except brain frazzled in combat with swedish bureaucrats!

                      Hello Lynn,

That'll teach me to jump in unprepared :-(, just blame the bureaucrats. Quite taken with the zombie idea though!

                      Cringeingly yours,

                        Zombies R Us

Hello Gweneth. Thanks. Not a problem.

The prospect of a zombie would make ANYONE cringe. (heh-heh)

                        Cheers.

                          Zombies

                          Hello Lynn,

Well if they can do it to Pride and Prejudice, why not Jack? Haven't read it myself but my daughter has it.

Gwyneth, by the way, not Gweneth. Now it begins.... Starts with Gweneth and then it's Guinevere, Gannet and the Swedish version Grynet, alack, alas!

                          Cheers,

                            Hi Lynn and curious4

I realise that Ollson is a common Scandinavian name but it does occur to me that the man who wrote the article might be a descendant of Ollson the pastor of the East End Swedish church.

Another point is that if there was a memorial to Liz Stride in the Swedish cemetery in Brookwood, Woking, I have just come across a personal family precedent for that type of thing. A cousin of mine, Frank Norman, was killed in his 23rd year when he was flying as the wireless operator aboard a Lancaster bomber over Germany on June 12-13, 1943. Frank is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Cleves, Germany. However, he also has a memorial in England. His death and place of burial are noted on his parents' gravestone in the Thornton Garden of Rest, Thornton, Merseyside. The gravestone in England makes mention of the fact that Frank's remains were interred in the cemetery in Reichswald Forest, Germany.

                            Best regards

                            Chris

                              Hello Lynn, All,

Something in the back of my mrnd that I can't quite remember about the name. Don't think it has anything to do with the pastor Olsson though. It is from around the time of the article by on of the living relatives of Stride. Am puzzled.
Perhaps Christer will have some luck.

                              Best wishes
