I am not sure whether this theory has been muted before, so i will put it out there. The question of Liz's canoniacal status ( the word " canoniacal " is either misspelt or does not exist ) is a tug of war between MO/signature differences and time/space probability. The differences could be explained by an unstable individual/individuals reaction to the earlier crimes, a copy-cat, working within a similar area and time frame, carrying a similar weapon, with the details gleaned from the press.

I would say that canonical status is discussed about more than often. Scorpio, if your really interest in the status, I made a gigantic thread about it, with an accompying poll. Over 70 different ripperologist voted so I am pretty sure this is an accurate representation of the current belief. Also, the thread is some hundreds of pages long. Thousands of posts.
Worth a read?

Thread name: "Did Jack kill Liz Stride?"Washington Irving:
"To a homeless man, who has no spot on this wide world which he can truly call his own, there is a momentary feeling of something like independence and territorial consequence, when, after a weary day's travel, he kicks off his boots, thrusts his feet into slippers, and stretches himself before an inn fire. Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. The arm chair in his throne; the poker his sceptre, and the little parlour of some twelve feet square, his undisputed empire. "
