  • The IWMC seen by a French journalist

From "La Presse", lundi 15 octobre 1888 :

"It is at the entrance of a small passage which is in Berner Street that the last body was found. I saw the place of crime. The murderer attacked his victim near a place with dark recesses where are held the meetings of an international club.

This international club is composed of a heap of robbers watched closely by the police. At the time when the blow was made, the patrons of the establishment were awakened, but they preferred listening and saying nothing. If they would come to say to me tomorrow that these people are accomplices, I would not be surprised at all."

A typical example of how news was distorted in those days and how people thought of other people.

                        Greetings,

                        Addy

                          Hi Addy,

rather a typical example of a conservative newspaper.
And Ravachol, Caserio and al hadn't striken yet...

                          Amitiés,

                            La Presse:

The last corpse was found at the entrance to a small alley which is located in Berner Street. I have seen the actual scene of the crime. The killer struck down his victim right beside a seedy looking establishment where meetings of an International Club are held.
This International Club is made up of a gang of criminals who are closely watched by the police. At the time when the fatal blow was struck, the members of the club were awake but have chosen to hear and say nothing. If I were told tomorrow that these people were accomplices in the crime, it would certainly not surprise me.
