    Hello Jon!

If you mean, that she took stuff to get some money from the pawn-shops, OK!

But I don't find it impossible, that the specs were for her own eye-sight!

    All the best
    Jukka

      Hi Jukka

I bet she found the spectacles. Possibly with a view to use herself when she was sewing but I doubt very much she was the original owner.

I don`t believe she picked these things up to purposely pawn because if the items were pawnable I`m sure they would have gone along with Kelly`s boots to Jones of Church St. I reckon she picked things up in the kitchens of the Lodging Houses with a view that they would come in handy someday, like the six pieces of soap (she wasn`t buying multipacks to save money) or the piece of chalk.

Therefore Kate is different from the rest of the C5. I feel it is just another indication that Kate was not JTRs ideal choice for a victim.

I think what Ally was saying was that these were ALL different women. I really don't think that Jack would have cared much about what was about their person - he was more interested in getting inside them.

            Hi all,

I think the 5 and dime store that was Kate Eddowes is what you might find with someone who only owns that stuff, and has no safe place to leave any of it.

What I wonder is if they confiscated everything...including the table knife, when they booked her. Just for curiousity's sake. I believe the list of contents that we use is the one that was itemizing what was found on her body when removed from the murder scene.

            Best regards all.

              Hello Michael!

My impression is, that the LVP street-girls owned knives for their personal protection...

              All the best

                Hi Jukka,

I believe your correct, Ive also read sharpened pieces of metal and whatever makeshift versions their means could allow.

Im fairly sure that this knife is proof that she was capable of scoffing little items from at least where she and John stayed.

My question about the jail situation is just curiosity....I wondered if the police records from her booking show precisely what later is learned from going through her garments.

                Cheers Jukka.

None of the other victims had knives. If Kate is carrying the knife for protection then she sets herself apart from the rest. Wich is what I believe the possesions are telling us anyway.

For me each case weaves a story. It tells me a lttle something about the person and the people of that era. Even the way the chips fell through history tells me something.

What I am being told is that Kate is not JTRs typical victim. She is the least reliable and trustworthy as far as JTR is concerned. Her case tells me that JTR is spending at least more time with the victims than merely picking them up at random. Kate is dodgy. She is unlikely to be familiar enough with the area to know a safe spot. She is unlikely to tell the truth about it.

                  Heres some speculation:
Kate probably told JTR that the gate was unlocked. She was probably lying thinking that theres no way she will go behind a gate with a customer so when they get there she will tell him they will just have to do this right here.
JTR probably knew the gate was locked too. He didnt care by then. She wasnt his victim that night. She was never intended to be his victim.
