Tumblety, an unlikely suspect...

came across Stewart Evans and Paul gainey’s book recently. It’s a nice story, but flawed. The biggest problem being exactly that. Certainly at least 2 witnesses undoubtedly saw Jack the Ripper. Elizabeth long certainly..tumblety was too old and too tall to match any of the sitings. This alone really discounts him. However the theory falls short in other ways too. There is no prove he was ever the batty street lodger, no proof he was actually ever in Whitechapel, no evidence he actually kept womb specimens, no record of him being arrested for the Whitechapel murders other than one report in an American newspaper, only one reference to him being a suspect from littlechild who was not involved in any of the investigations. Abberline, Swanson, Reid, macnaghten....not one of the investigating officers of the time make reference to him. He may have been suspected, hence why he was followed to America by police, but it would appear he was never a serious candidate. Gainey and Evans base their arguments on very little substance...he may have crouched...had his collar up?...please..he was arrested for homosexual activities, panicked and fled. And I think it is that simple. The extensive dossier on him at Scotland Yard has never been found...if it existed at all...gainey and Evans place importance on George Hutchinson’s very detailed description of a man seen with kelly on night of her murder ..especially a red tie pin, which was apparently something tumblety wore, but it’s very tenuous and large doubts have been cast on Hutchinson’s remarkable ability to describe from a siting in a dismal street such a detailed description. Hutchinson has been suspected of emblishing for notoriety, especially considering the delay in him coming forward. Only because abberline gave him some credence has Hutchinson been given any seriousness.

tumblety is not one of my favored suspects but is valid:

he was in london at the time
was suspected by sr police official
was a known criminal
he himself said he was arrested for suspician of being the ripper
a witness did say he saw uterus specimins and surgical instruments/knives of tumbletys
his fleeing coincides with end of c5 murders
kniwn to make misogynist statements

now that being said my main thing against his suspecthood is he dosnt fit witness descriptions and was gay. Mainly he dosnt fit witness descriptions
