  • Passenger record for Tumblety's flight to USA in December 1888

Here is another source document relating to Tumblety I hadn't seen before. This relates to Tumblety's flight from the UK, first to France and thence to the USA. He sailed on the La Bretagne from Le Havre and arrived in the USA on 3 December 1888. He sailed under his oft used alias of Frank Townsend.
The record of his sailing reads as follows:-
    Name: Frank Townsend
    Arrival Date: 3 Dec 1888
    Birth Year: abt 1843
    Age: 45
    Gender: Male
    Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: American
Place of Origin: United States of America
Port of Departure: Le Havre, France
    Destination: New York
    Port of Arrival: New York
    Port Arrival State: New York
    Port Arrival Country: United States
    Ship Name: La Bretagne

Below is a copy of the passenger list for that day and I will post some enlargements of the relevant sections
The Townsend entry for Tumblety is rrecord number 36

        Hi Chris,

Nice find indeed. Has SPE had sight of this, do you know?

Don't believe it...I was checking out a thread on this very subject less than an hour ago (on which Debs supplied an answer to this effect)...but nice to see the original record...great find Chris!

Awesome Chris, as usual! You never cease to amaze me.

Interesting for me, also, is my Siegel ancestors (mother's maiden name) settled in Buffalo, NY, in the late 1800s. They came from Alscace Loraine, and traveling out of La Havre to NY would not be out of the question. It certainly would be interesting if that "M___ Siegel" named just above Tumblety was my great-great grampa! Time to research.

              Sincerely,

              Mike

Great find and thank you for posting! I may have missed it but departure date from Le Havre is where? Apologies if it is stated.

                Best wishes

Great find. I notice Tumblety knocked at least 10 years off his real age. What a scream! Worse than any woman...
