I need some confirmation. According to Francis Tumblety, he lived for a while at 109 East 9th Street, New York, on July 22, 1891. Carrie Brown was a prostitute out of 29 Bleecker St, NY, and was murdered in April 1891. According to MapQuest, 109 East 9th St is only .6 miles away from 29 Bleecker St! The East River Hotel on the corner of Water St and Catherine St is only 1.75 miles from Tumblety's residence.
Tumblety did indeed live at 109 East 9th Street in 1891 and, according to Tim Riordan, possibly lived at, or near, that address as early as 1889. However, Carrie Brown did not live at 29 Bleecker Street.

Brown worked as a servant, when she could get the work, and off and on she spent time in the Work House on Blackwell’s Island (she had just been released from there just days before her death). She actually lived at Mamie Harrington’s Lodging House in the basement of 49 Oliver Street.

The so-called “Police Report” posted by corey123 is nothing of the sort. It’s a copy of Brown’s death certificate and was filled out by the Coroner’s Office, not by the police. Also, Brown was actually buried in her family’s plot in Salem, Mass., on Friday, 1st of May, 1891, not in August as shown on the death certificate.

Howard and Jonathon are perfectly correct. As far as we know Tumblety was in Hot Springs Arkansas in mid April, 1891, where he was robbed, and he may have wanted to stick around during the police investigation to see if he could get his money and diamonds back. Was he actually in New York when Brown was murdered? No one can now say, but the detailed description of the man who entered the East River Hotel with Carrie Brown on the night she was murdered in no way matches Tumblety.

The killer was 32 to 35 years old; 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall; had a slim build, light coloured hair and a blond mustache; a long, “sharp” nose and seemed to be of German nationality. Francis Tumblety had nothing to do with Brown's death.

    Wolf.

This conflicts with the belief that Tumblety would want the public to know he was Jack the Ripper.

Very interesting -- and that makes sense.

This is why casebook.org is excellent. Upon discovering how close Tumblety lived to the location of Brown's murder, I have an quick access to experts.

Speaking of coincidence, I was just reading Wolf Vanderlinden’s and John Hacker’s Ripper Notes: America Looks at Jack the Ripper, Issue 19, Jul 2004. Wolf notes that Tumblety most likely did not take the trip back to NYC, and next thing you do is reply. Although Wolf, you did state, “However, if the “doctor” actually had left Arkansas soon after the theft, he could easily have made it to New York in time to murder Carrie Brown on the night of the 23/24”. OK, OK, I'm pushing it, but this Ripper research is so infectious!

        Thank everyone for clarifying.

            Hello

your welcom for the report, Im glad it helped.

            And wolf,
If you had read where I posted that report You would see that I didnt say police report, I had posted "( if you hadnt seen it already) Is a report on brown". So please do try to find the facts before accusing someone of missinterpretation.

Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. Crossing the victems.

                Mike and all,

Here are the mortuary photo of Catherine Eddowes compared to Carrie Brown, which the injuries look as close as is Jack being a martien from outer space sent to collect human samples. Ha Ha

In Eddowes case the Unsub cut her open all the way through the outer layer of skin and the cut ran from the breast down to the lower body.
In Carries case the cut looks more superficial. Breaking the skin just enough for the organs to poke out and runs down the thighs on both sides. Also the incision starts at the navel.

                yours truly

                      Hi,

If I remember right. Tumblety was in Hot Springs Arkansas a week before the Carrie Brown murder.

                      Take Care.

So, Tumblety was as Whitechapel during the murders, and now Tumblety, himself, is walking distance from Carrie Brown. Is that a coincidence or what!

I would love people to double-check this.

                          Sincerely,

                          Mike
Having lived at 96 Bleecker St. myself I can tell you that the distance is pretty accurate.

Yeah, right. I should really get the facts straight before I accuse someone of “missinterpretation." I guess I was confused by the wording in your post (#3 on this thread). You know the one where you state:

Sorry to interupt (sic) but did you find anything interesting of that police report of Carrie Brown??

                            To which Mike responded:

It's because of your Carrie Brown police report that this all started.

I guess I should have known that when you wrote “police report” you didn’t actually mean “police report.” Apparently merely reading the actual words you post is just not good enough. My bad. I’ll try and do better in the future with my facts checking.

                            Wolf.

you misunderstood me,my point was that you assumed I was talking about the death cerificate without asking what I was mentioning, I do know that I put that but I typed fast, you do need to get your facts straight before accusing people. Which you didnt.
