Finally, well at least for the moment, here is another view of Linnaeus Street taken from outside the gates of Linnaeus House, the gates are on the right of the picture.

Would that Linnaeus be my famed fellow countryman, Carl von Linné, who mastermided floral taxonomi in the 18:th century??? And if so, why are these particular builings devoted to his memory? Do you know?

            The best, Mike!

You would be correct in your assumptions.

The house was built on Linnaeus Street which was named after the gentleman because a rather large botanical garden stood close by.
The Dawber family resided in the house as one of the Dawbers (Joseph) was a solicitor and representative of the Botanical Gardens.
Prior to the property being named Linnaeus House, it was named Sunnyside as the South/West and North facing sides took the sun from sunrise to sunset.
I still have maps and photos of the house to post, they are fantastic and i am pleased it is still in use today.

Here is a colour shot taken last year, I have turned it black and white to keep in with the rest of the shots, even in colour the area is pretty drab!
The street is mainly units and NHS properties, my children were born in the building on the left, my sister was robbed at gunpoint in the garage just off screen to the right, swings and roundabouts really!!

                            Linnaeus Street

The Dawber family lived down here in the late 1800's and the house had strong links to the local Botanical Society.
The building is one of the few locations that has links to the family and is still standing!

It is massive and a lovely place.
                            This map dates from 1911,

Next up is the same location but in 1928, note the building is no longer Sunnyside house but Linnaeus House, and the large glass green house at the end of the garden has vanished.
