    James, the Dog Killer?

What do you think about James being a dog poisoner?

From the Maybrick A to Z:

Tinne, Earnest ... allegedly had two of his dogs poisoned by James Maybrick because their barking annoyed him....

I also have a couple of 1888 newspaper ads from Battlecrease asking about a lost dog.

everyone loves a shaggy dog story

It is a well known fact that a lot of serial killers start by killing animals could James maybrick be jack the ripper? his drug addiction could explain our killers boldness .

Most normal people would just put up with a barking dog.

Yes but you would expect a serial killer who used a knife to kill people to use a knife to kill animals rather than simply poisoning them. Also as regaurds Maybrick's candidacy there is also the problem of the provenance of the diary.

            Cheers John

A puppy went missing from Battlecrease on August 7, 1888. An ad was put in the Liverpool paper three times--Aug. 7, and Oct. 12 and 13.

I once had a client, ex SAS, who killed his neighbour over a barking dog.

For some reason he was found to be insane and unfit to stand trial. He was a real life hero who simply lost touch with reality after havng klled so many times for his country.

That date is a bit of a problem, considering the probability that Martha Tabram was a ripper victim. But then our diarist chose to exclude her from Sir Jim's tally. Shame there was no mention of being cruel to dumb animals.

Yes, Caz, August 7 is the same date as the Tabram murder.

The canonical murders started August 30.

The two October ads, Oct. 12 and 13, are in the gap in the Ripper murders, between Sept. 30-Nov. 9.

Thanks, John, for the reply, and I would agree completely. David Berkowitz allegedly shot two dogs in his neighbourhood.

However, the Liverpool dogs were in a kennel so James likely couldn't use a knife on them if he wanted to.

Not necessarily John it would depend on among other thngs, the access he had to them and his reason for killing the dog, ie if he was afraid of dogs poison might be preferable to getting close enough to use a knife.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware the dogs were kept in a kennel.

I take your point. Although had the dogs been killed by a knife this would improve Maybricks candidacy.
