And all poor Bongo wanted was a half bottle of Scotch, and he'd have told Feldy et al the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, after coming out with multiple versions of it in the space of a morning, each story contradicting the last.

        I wrote the diary.

        No, Anne wrote the diary.

Hang on, Tony gave me the diary.

No, no. Tony died and never knew the diary existed.

I never knowingly lied about the diary or misled anyone.

Okay, what I said wasn't true, but I didn't know I was lying at the time.

My wife assured me the diary guidelines were all being followed to the letter.

It's a witch hunt and a kangaroo court. I'm not the only one who finds lying as easy as breathing.

I was assured by some posh twit that I could be Prime Minister one day, you know.

        Now, where's that Scotch?

        Love,

        Bongo

Your reply makes little sense maybe you should lay off the scotch.

Devereux rewrite handed over to Mike Barrett. Then Eddie Lyons telling Mike he just came from Dodd's house where he heard from work mates that a diary with a storyline roughly similar to Mike's diary had been found years ago and turned into the newspaper office.

I think this is an interesting theory Scott, but there are some challenges with it.

There is evidence to suggest that an attempt was made by Eddie to sell the diary to a local businessman at the time. This businessman has no skin in the game. He distinctly remembers the chain of events that happened around that time. He even has some documented evidence to support it. He is a very credible witness.

So why would Eddie be trying to sell a diary given to Mike by Tony?

Yes, my Apple Mac decided once again to stick in something I didn't intend to type. Very frustrating that on this site you cannot edit after 20 minutes. Still, it made me smile at the irony of it all.

I'm still getting rid of this ******* Mac, mind.

By the way, dear readers, I've just noticed that I seem to have been promoted to Assistant Commissioner! It's a bit like making Brian Clough England manager, but I'll take it. Clearly my contribution to this site has been recognised despite the occasional disciplinary (and public enquiry) over the years. You can't keep a good person down, eh?

Now, then, in my new and exalted position (I wish I'd realised earlier), I'd like to schedule some annual appraisals for my underlings:

Wheato - I'd start looking for another job if I were you
                          Fishy - you're career's over, mate
RJ Palmer - start sewing the arrows on your favourite orange jumpsuit, lad, 'cos you're going down for a ten-stretch (hard labor [sic])

I'm not sure what it means to be a 'premium member'. I assume it's some kind of back-hander in a brown envelope to curry favour in the higher echelons.

Well they don't get much higher than Assistant Commissioner for ****'s sake, so where's the dosh?
