The words “ bumbling & buffoon were around for many years prior to 1888.
I would presume that in the last 50 years there is a modern example where two words that were separate in use for many years eventually became a joined new phrase and became a new common saying
I can’t think of a example, well I can but it is off course a bit and not the best example.

The list of modernism in the scrapbook goes on and on, but that phrase alone is more than enough to blow it away.

      Sleep well Diary defenders!

      Happy fifth anniversary, Baron.

24 Aug 2020 - 24 Aug 2025. What a long, strange trip it has been.

Five years of arguments, theories, and back and forth… all undone by a single phrase!

        Economy of truth, I suppose.
