Well i knew who i was talking about , and it wasnt ''all other possible candidates'' . Just to clear up any loose ends on the matter.

I think your comparison shows up very favourably given what he had to work with.
Too forensic - Don't remember hearing that too often on CSI

I did my best to take in to account the medium and small size of the watch casing when comparing - It didn't change my opinion unfortunately. I just don't see the similarities. Maybrick could well have made the scratches of course, it being his best effort given the circumstances. But solely on the basis of how the signature looks I also think it could have been anyone else's best effort as well.

The K has a double loop at the top on both. It’s faint on the watch but it is there.
        Hi Ero

It wasn't intentional, I didn't notice a double loop at the top on the watch (to be fair I am still not sure I do), but I have re-done the image in the interest of fairness. Hope I have captured it this time.

The J for example varies significantly across all three examples, and that could be influenced with the type of pen used, ink used, paper type etc. The M on the other hand has almost zero variance from the 1881 certificate to the 1865 bible inscription. It literally is the same.

Etching letters into metal requires dexterity that would never be the same as using a pen on paper. So you have to look for commonalities of repeat patterns / traits.
The "m" is interesting in the marriage registration/licence; the arches are sharp and the middle stem is clearly rounded like a "u". This is a completely different pen movement to the rounded arches and single middle stem of the others. It does seem odd to do such a pivotal letter of ones signature so differently. Not sure it means anything, but it is interesting.

          • i cant see how a inscription on a metal surface would be the same as in a bible cover.
you got use force on a metal surface.
            probably a monkey grip.

Do you think it could have been done by a petty criminal? It appears Dr Turgoose didn't think so.

Yet the same family still own the watch. I guess that big pay day is due any day now.

If I try to sell the Brooklyn Bridge and no one buys it, does that make me honest?

this leads me to yesterdays thought's perhaps jack did do the inscriptions with he,a blade.
i don't believe it can be done with a pen nib.
so by a honest cop criminal possible also.
look at the art forger Han van Meegeren, used old vacuum cleaner dirt to rub in his paintings and baked them.
and comparison with bible signatures with a tiny watch that is metal , no way they be the same.
                                it,s a specialist's hand.
                                they obviously like the watch.

                                mine went into recycle,
