  • Lechmere Thomas Street address.

    Ladies/Gents,

According to the Channel 5 documentary. Lechmere lived on Thomas Street, as some point. Does anyone know when and what number he lived at?

Yes, absolutely - he lived at 13 Thomas Street at the time of the 1861 census. That was at the time of him having Thomas Cross as a stepfather. He was eleven at that stage.
There is reason to believe that the family moved away on account on the construction work for the railway arch.
In 1881, we can see that Maria Louisa, his mother, now married (bigamously) to Joseph Forsdike, was back on the street. It was now called Pinchin Street, and the couple resided at number 23.
Obviously, there is a strong connection between the Lechmere family and Pinchin Street.

Interesting.... as there's a Thomas Street in Bromley-by-Bow which is within easy walking distance of the various murder scenes too? I'm curious to know when Pinchin Street was renamed?

It can be very confusing with regards to street names and indeed place names in London.

The above link will assist with when Thomas Street became Pinchin Street.

............and just to confuse things further, my Thomas Street (in Bow) became Thomas Road at some point.

              Hi All,

This was the Census enumerator's route which included the Cross family's home at 13, Thomas Street in 1861:

All that part of the Parish of St George in the East which comprises

The east side of Phillip Street.

South side of Ellen Street from Phillip Street to Elizabeth Street including Ellen Place.

              West side of Elizabeth Street.

North side of Thomas Street from Elizabeth Street to Phillip Street.

              Both sides of Severn Street.

Both sides of Mary Ann Street.

This is the area on the 1873 OS map:
