Dorothy Parker, the US columnist, has a parrot which she called Onan, "because he spilled his seed on the ground"!

Curious - I've always thought it was the wittiest name for a pet I have ever encountered.

Dorothy must have had some fun. She must have been able to see , from those being introduced to the bird for the first time, whether that person had not a clue or seen them almost choke with surprise!!

          Pet name

Wicked! And the unsuspecting ones calling it by name in all innocence!

Actually its the one thing that puts a large question mark over Aaron's illness.

Schizophrenia is typified by low sex drive. So Compulsive masterbation in Hebophrenic Schizophrenic makes Aaron a vary rare phenomina.

That will grow hair on your palms...

              Hi all,

I don’t know that is says anywhere that Aaron was a ‘compulsive’ onanist(sic). Upon incarceration it said he practices ‘self abuse’. What this implies is that someone knew about it so he did it in front of somebody or was caught. If he was ‘yanking’ on it in front of his sister for example, this would be very rude indeed. What this says about his mental state I haven’t the vaguest.

Or even heard? There could have been very little privacy in a household of seven people occupying two or three rooms.

Guess when he wasnt wanking he was "shanking"?
What differentiates a "compulsive" wanker from a non cumpulsive one?Is there a set number of times per day-minute-hour which allows one to be labelled compulsive? Its ok Im not looking for an answer -just thinking aloud.

Not wanting this to sound patronising, but one becomes a compulsive anything at the point they are driven by a compulsion and the act of doing something is no longer a desire. Compulsive anything, sexual acts, gambling, telling lies, killing, is not measured by a rate at which it happens, but by the fact it can not be resisted.

Without the Desire ,there would be no compulsion,
But anyhow,it wasnt a serious question, and as far as identifying Jack the Ripper,it wont help a great deal-compulsive or non compulsive, whichever the case may be.

We can but speculate. And as there are few records about Aaron after his comital it might just fail to mention the act. But compulsive masturbation would not be associated with Schizophia although thats not to say it cant be.

When Peter Sutcliff was arrested he was wearing a strange pair of long johns cut away at the crutch for that very purpose. Although there is no evidence the JtR wanked at the murder scene.

Personally I've always wondered if this was something Anderson witnessed him doing...it would explain a lot.

Anderson of course did completely the wrong thing and told him to get a grip on himself.

"And not to rub him (Anderson) up the wrong way" perhaps?
