  • Why was Koz allowed to roam Whitechapel?

    Hi all,

Something’s been bothering me. I’m reading Rob’s Book, it’s quite compelling but I won’t yet ruin it for others. Anyway, for arguments sake let’s assume Koz is the ripper. Of course I’m asking for speculation here…..and I’m wondering about Koz’s lifestyle with his family? Why was he allowed to roam all hours of the night? I’m assuming he wasn’t working based on statements when he was incarcerated so is he wandering all night and sleeping all day or just lying around masturbating while the rest of his family is engaged in the tailoring. Wouldn’t Wolf or somebody put there foot down about his behavior. Obviously, he was young and strong and probably very head strong as well. Perhaps his schizophrenia was just starting to rear its head? Nevertheless, if he lies around all day and wanders at night and murders begin to happen wouldn’t you think his family would attempt something sooner? Yes they did eventually have him put away but it may have been 3 or 4 years too late. Could he have fooled them? Did they just leave him alone because he was too difficult? If they knew or suspected he was insane why didn’t they tell the police or haul him away or tie him down at night? Just something I’ve been wondering about and would welcome speculation……….

There is the suggestion that Kosminski occupied some premises by himself at some period. Details are sadly lacking to know whether being in his brother's/family's care actually meant he lived in their house(s) all the time.

Much is made that he didn't work, yet arguments have also been offered that the murders took place on holidays & weekends, implying the murderer may have been employed!

Also, just my opinion, I don't see a 23 year old (Kosminski) could possibly have been mistaken for a 30-35 year old, or even a 40+ year old suspect.
    But hey, thats just me...

      Koz's habits.........

      Thanks Wickerman,

I think Lawende said 30...not a huge stretch from 23 in the semi-darkness........I don't think Mrs. Long said an age? Not sure I'd put that much credence on the age determination.............

Yeah, I'm interested in what accomodations might be like if Koz lived in the tailor workshop area of one of his brothers or sisters........where would he sleep? Was their a privy where he might clean up?

There could be other reasons why weekends were chosen besides employment......maybe the prostitutes were more active or he liked increased street traffic or his sister or brother did something on the weekends...who knows...?

I have been wondering about that too. (Been reading Rob's book as well, and I dare say it's the best book I've read in a long time!)

From what Rob was saying, there is a high probability that Aaron was residing in Isaac's garden workshop during the 1888 murders, which backs up the source from either Anderson or Swanson I believe, which states that he was the sole occupant of various premises at night where he could deposit he blood stains in secret (the workshop?). This could suggest that if Aaron was the Ripper, he would have been able to pass more or less unnoticed compared to if he was staying in the direct family quarters, although an incident where his family didn’t know would seem extremely unlikely for obvious reasons. Also, it could have served as a place to lock Aaron away from the family and keep him away from the children if he was becoming too insane or dangerous, as this was usually what happened to the insane at the time if an asylum wasn’t available to them at that moment. There is also evidence that perhaps Aaron was admitted to a private asylum on a few occasions, although this is speculative and based on un-backed case notes, so we cannot be entirely sure on what they did with Aaron. Also, if he was a paranoid schizophrenic (very likely) he may have been able to hide some of his symptoms from others to an extent, thus appearing to be normal, yet being completely delusional and living in a sadistic fantasy world at the same time. So obviously since we weren't there at the time to assess Aaron, we can never be sure on how bad he was up to that point, and if he was attacked in waves, then Kozminski sure would have gone through some rough times, and then some otherwise almost normal times during its various cycles.
