Yes,I think I can go with that.
It is interesting too to read through his conversations with his landlady while he was getting together with Mary Spink ----see his" pre marital arrangements "--- you will hear Severin articulating a very duplicitous world view or "value system" to his shocked landlady. It makes little sense except as an example of how he obeyed nobody"s laws but his own while at the same time finding ways to duck out of real commitment in a conventional "marriage" to Mrs Spink, instead partaking of a bogus marriage to Mrs Spink, thereby placating both his Victorian landlady and Mrs Spink. Hear him say for example to his landlady --- " our ways are different from your ways" while at the same time he manages,on the quiet, to find a non legal solution that somehow satisfies all three of them for a time.
In another such "marriage" before that, this time to Annie Chapman,he proposed after only a few months of their "married life" that she and he should live with another woman in a threesome , all sharing a bed together. This time though Annie told him to get lost and dumped him .

He is a very conflicted fellow. Erratic changes in behavior, iirationalities, and duplicity are his coping mechanisism for the stress of living in a reality in which he feels foriegn. These machanisms, each used to fit a specific need of Severin to fit in, constitute the bulk of what we know about him. The are signatures in so far as they are the traceable features of his existence. One can only imagine what other behaviors he exercised, and by such measures concealed.

manifestations of the reality he would rather be in! His way of holding on to his version of reality. Same impetus as the false bravado, in his world he is the king.
