Hi all,
Some views of Chapman / Klosowski's last pub.
A view from across the street. The pub itself is located just riverside of St George the Martyr, on the eastern side of Borough High Street. Its former use is readily suggested in its architecture, hence the following pictures:
The top of the building.
The decoration above one of the first floor windows.
Martin Fido, in his 1987 Murder Guide to London, seems to have mistakenly believed that the building had been demolished, making way for the Post Office, south of the junction of Borough High Street, Marshalsea Road and Great Dover Street. This picture, from the Illustrated Police News, and posted on these boards by Neal Shelden in 2003, shows the Crown in its early C20 incarnation.
Regards,
Mark Ripper
All of this dedicated to the one I love.
