While thinking about this thread it occurred to me how Neal Stubbings Shelden established how many people were completely unaware they had ancestors who were victims of Jack the Ripper, kind of the flip side of this question.

The population is finite. Which means there is a chance! I adopt the same attitude with Powerball.

The last question in an IQ test usually cannot be solved, except by eliminating the four wrong answers.

Doubt many Ripperologists get to that question in the time allowed

What was the population of the area at the time? ROFL.

    Carna Hawks!

We're probably at the stage where it is far easier to prove who it wasn't rather than who it was.

I guess if you keep proving who it wasn't you might eventually get there;-)

    Yep.

No way anyone alive today has first hand knowledge.

Now someone alive today may have documentary evidence that is pretty persuasive.

It's too bad conscious awareness of past lives is so uncommon.

You've probably heard about the Lisbon Ripper, who murdered between 3 to 5 women (all prostitutes) in the early nineties. He's often been compared to JTR.

In 2011, while trying to be selected for a reality show, a kid told the production that his father was the Lisbon Ripper, and the man, who was mentally deranged, confessed to the whole thing to a reporter from a sensationalist tabloid and was arrested but later acquitted.

(The murders had already reached statute of limitations but the police considered him a suspect of a more recent murder and decided to pick him up)!

This shows some people will go to extreme lengths to get attention from the media, but it's still possible someone knows the truth and has a way to prove it!
