We all tend to forget that who ever was doing this was quite obviously disturbed and quite a long way away from normal so when we try to apply common sense to our killers action we are doomed to failure.

I agree by most of our standards he was disturbed and abnormal, but keep in mind there is nothing in these crimes that indicated the killer was insane or mentally ill in a legal or psychological sense.
Everything points to an organized killer who was killing for a personal pathological need versus out of a psychotic delusion.
A psychotic killer doesn't worry about witnesses or escape, as they are driven by their delusion; whereas a sociopathic individual, while still needing to kill, would also keep self-preservation in high order over their killing desires.

I think most everybody agrees with this. (at least in general) There are times killers "snap" but very few try to argue he was normal one minute, turned into a delusional raving maniac due to {insert various reasons for state of mind}, then right back to "normal" and walked away. Multiply this happening 4,5,6 times or more and out in public?

I don't like saying the word "impossible" with so many variables but if one prefers we can at least call it improbable.

Hi All,

I think he was probably a regular user of prostitutes before he attacked the first one. The Spitalfields women he preyed on were mostly old and weathered enough to 'smell' out a man who was totally new to the whole pick-up routine, and might therefore suspect his motives.

Whitechapel was undoubtedly his comfort zone, regardless of where his base was, so he presumably felt comfortable enough around the women he chose to attack there.
