Not that he is a serious suspect but Arthur Conan Doyle has a near air-tight alibi for the Nichols murder. This match was played on August 30. A "Dr. Doyle" also played for Portsmouth at Portsmouth on Sept 1. Incidentally, the MCC also played in Portsmouth in a two-day match August 31-Sept 1 but Montague Druitt did not participate.
