Third in my series of polls - and I promise I'll cool off on them for awhile after this one; I know this page is getting cluttered with them.
I am trying to look at named suspects who can be compared, creating groups of sets that can be self-contained and analyzed as a type. This helps in a number of ways: because if a certain theorist proposes that a given suspect is Jack The Ripper because of superficial traits which can be generalized to other suspects, it can help to demonstrate how easily airtight cases can unravel. Conversely, breaking down the possible types of suspects using ones already named may help us to narrow down the categories we use in evaluating suspects yet to be named.
I've not commented on any of these polls, but I will on this one: I have always found these two underdiscussed in comparison to other 'star' suspects. Thomas Cutbush does come off the harmless lunatic in 1891 to me, but William Grainger seems to enter and disappear the record in a flash: has there ever been a book about his candidacy?
Again, you need not believe that either one is Jack The Ripper - all I ask is which one is more likely to have been?
