Wentworth Bellsmith rarely gets a mention on these forums. However he is a long shot for the Ripper. Better than some suspects for instance those suspects that weren't even in the Country at the time of the C5. Also he seems an intriguing character.

Many years ago I found a ship’s passenger list that shows him in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at the time of the Mary Kelly murder.

By the way, his correct name was Henry Bellsmith and not “G.” Bellsmith.

Thanks for the info RJ. Yes I remember reading a post that he was Henry Wentworth Bellsmith. Wasn't aware that he was a ships passenger at the time of Mary Kelly's murder though.

I just had a look through that thread on JtRForums where Roger found HWB at sea. He was an interesting person though and there are people who don’t think that Kelly was killed by the same man.

Hi Herlock. Thanks I had previously read a post in these forums showing a family tree that suggested it was Henry Wentworth BellSmith. Had not known that he was on a ship during Mary Kelly's murder until today though.

          Cheers John
