I think Blotchy could be anybody so that's why I included him. And is most likely someone we don't even have a name for. But one thing is for certain is that if we believe Cox's testimony, and imo she is one of the strongest witnesses out there, he's 90% the killer of Mary Kelly and in turn the killer of the rest, so he's most likely the Ripper. He also perfectly fits the profile of what I imagine the Ripper would have been like - someone unassuming and typical of the area, but more... downtrodden. As far as him being Kosminski or not, we know next to nothing about Kosminski prior to 1891 except having a run in with the police for walking his brother's unmuzzled dog and working as a barber for a time. It's impossible to know what his build and habbits were during the Ripper killings as there's zero information, but in 1989 he at least seemed pretty functioning in his police encounter. As for Bury, I don't buy him as Blotchy at all. Namely because Cox had a good look on him and he was shaved with a thick mustache. Bury had a thick beard.

I think that the Ripper very well could have been someone that we don't know about or someone that a witness has described but whose name we don't know. But for me to consider someone a suspect, I feel he needs to be someone that can be identified by name. I agree with Abby that all of the named suspects are weak, but I think William Bury is less weak than the other named suspects. So I'd put him in the top tier by himself. In my 2nd tier are Jacob Levy, George Chapman, David Cohen, James Kelly, George Hutchinson, Charles le Grand, Aaron Kosminski, and Frederick Deeming. In my 3rd tier are Thomas Cutbush, Hyam Hyams, Montague Druitt, Albert Bachert, Edward Buckley, and Oswald Puckridge.

Kosminski seems the most suitable out of any of the named suspects imo.

pretty much agree with this list except the unnamed killer. his name is probably out there, weve heard it before. either as a suspect a witness or some peripheral character, like a Crow or goldstein.

    Question...

Do you have a favoured suspect, or are you on the fence?

It would be interesting to see what percentage of members have a suspect they favour and those who don't have one.

    RD
    hi rd
i dont have a single favored suspect. I tend to rank them by viability or as i like to say.. least weak, as I think all the ripper suspects are weak.

in my first tier of least weak:
Bury, hutch, chapman, kelly, koz, druitt, lech

and the rest, if not proven ruled out like ostrog,or ridiculous supects like maybrick, van gogh or royal conspiracy types, I remain open mined and consider suspects like Barnett, richardson, puckridge, jacob levy, francis thompson, donston, tumblty etc. as possible, although i admit many of these ones are real long shots.

of unnamed suspects, i think blotchy is up there. im also highly intrigued by the bethnal green botherer. and of course peaked cap man, who was undoubtedly the ripper.

What i love, is that those of you who've commented thus far are all brilliant individuals with a considerable amount of knowledge and understanding of the case as a whole...

    ...and yet...

There are already multiple favoured suspects.

I think that can only be a good thing, because it proves that the case still has room for progression and development, even after all this time.

Keep those favoured (or not favoured) suspects coming

I have several that I believe could be the Ripper, but overall I would say that I don't have a favoured suspect.
