    clincher

Hello. According to the article, the clincher is that he undressed Polly. Given her line of work, I'd say hundreds of men killed her.

    Cheers.

      Ripper Bandwagon

It's another ride on the Ripper Bandwagon - pay your fares and jump aboard. And don't expect anything so vulgar as facts to get in the way.

His age does seem to be against his candidacy.
He died in march 1896 in Whitechapel age 60.
Also being an inmate of the workhouse for so many years, does bring up problems of access to victims
        Another promising candidate gone west?

          Why?

Really, why do people take these expeditions into the land of the fantastic so seriously?

I wouldn't worry about his age. I mean, look at Jimmy Savile still running marathons in his 60s wasn't he?

And no, I'm not being serious here.

                  sad

Hello Septic. I approve your phrase, "non-starter."

The sad part is that many non-ripperologists will see the documentary and go ga-ga. Next, there will be a new poll and Mann will be the leading vote getter.

On the other hand, he was subject to fits and his mind did WANDER. (Good heavens! I AM THE RIPPER!!)

Well, I'll be watching on Sunday, to see how Trow builds his argument, and how (or, indeed, if) he responds to the various objections to his theory as put forward on here.

I've no particular reason to believe Mann was the Ripper although, by the same token, I've no particular reason to dismiss someone's claims before giving them the chance to justify them. At worst, his theory and his book will dissapear into the ether, along with practically every other theory as to the Ripper's identity that has been proposed in the past.

I am sure my readers dont come within that catergory.

You never know one day the small group who represent the other side may see the light and become one of the many converted. Hallelujah !!!!!!!!!!

Well, it certainly won't be for the best for the proposer of the theory (Trow) and, likewise, surely anyone who genuinley wants to discover the identity of the Ripper would like to hear a compelling argument put forward that has them thinking 'hmmm...now that's interesting'.

TBH, I find it bemusing that people who post on a forum dedicated to JTR could be hoping that a theory fails or suggesting it's 'for the best' that it does fail before they've even heard the theory.

                                interesting

Hello Joe. It's a very interesting theory. Moreover, like most people on the boards, I would give a large sum to see this thing put to rest and have the naughty boy (or girl) identified and the case officially closed.

I agree that theories deserve a proper hearing. Of course, there seem to be some theories which can be dismissed a priori. I am thinking of any theory which includes Queen Victoria in drag or Elvis Presley as the ripper.
