  • Eastney,Portsmouth 8th July 1878

John Warrington was accused of cutting his wife's throat on 8th July 1878.Although 4 doctors thought he'd done it,there was an element of doubt. Testimony to his previous good character and the poor reports of his wife's behaviour swayed the judge and he ruled it as suicide.
Warrington's neighbour had gone to the house and was shown Mrs Warrington and the knife used.He said to Warrington,'you have a nice sharp edge here,Jack'.
The 5th and 6th vertebrae had been notched by an eighth of an inch, which was unheard of in a suicide case.
The doctors discussed her injuries in some detail and 3 of them believed her
throat was cut from left to right, one said right to left.
The 'Dear Boss' letter contains the line,'my knife's so nice and sharp'.
Mary Kelly's 5th and 6th vertebrae had been cut into.(Sugden)
The 'doctor' with the opposing opinion?Thomas Bond.
I firmly believe Bond was Jack, and that this case inspired the creation of his alter ego.

Taken at face value, the Warrington case solves the whole thing. But it's too obvious isn't it?
