The story about the killer drowning himself after the Kelly murder started amongst the locals very soon after murder.Police are bound to hear this story it wouldn't have been to hard for them to make basic inquires about his movements during the murders.Perhaps they made some discreet inquiries and found out that he would have been available to commit murders hardly conclusive but enough to fan the flames of rumour.

      Hello Pinkmoon,

YOUR relatives may have heard this "story"..but I can honestly tell you that MY relatives, also living slap bang in the middle of the East End at the time, didn't.....

It should be considered that word of mouth gossip was rife in the East End anyway...the press were having a field day playing hunt the killer and all sorts of wierd and wonderful theories were popping up. You might as well say that people thought the killer was a foreigner who worked on a cattle boat.. because that was the idea that occured to Queen Victoria, apparently. If she thought of that from the comfort of her home, then as sure as eggs are eggs the locals had thought of it.

What fans the flames of rumour...still... is the proclaimation that one certain "theory" was "abound" ...above all others. Some common sense should be applied here. Gossip is just talk.. and if you are going to believe gossip, then a "member of the working class" should be considered far greater than Druitt.

All this promotion over MJD really is ridiculous. We had the same two years ago with Kosminski.

Soon it will be his turn again. Or Tumblety, or, or, or... It's a merry-go-round that some people want to carry on with for the sake of keeping the whole story alive somehow. (As if it is going to die if the killer(s) WAS/WERE ever discovered!!! NOT!)

It's a parlour game that really is wearing thin... hence the need to regurgitate and re-mix. Every so often someone produces "evidence" to "enhance" or "perpetuate" the known theories on whom "Jack the Ripper" was. Some people make money out of it too. (Oh shock, horror)..

It's a business. And as you will see this year in all years... the limits of conning the public meet no end... for some it is a silly little game. Even internal, to "fool" as many "experts" as possible. (Have a Diary, dearie, as they say..) Some people get a twisted kick out of it all.
      Sad, I call it.

Hi Phil,in all probability the only thing that put druitt into the spotlight was the timing of his suicide. In a case of this magnitude if the police had any evidence against druitt it would have come out the "private information" was in reality nothing more than second hand gossip.Could druitts brother have heard these rumours himself and gone to the police to complain maybe that's where the connection to macnaughton comes from.

          Hello Pinkmoon,

          Thanks for the reply, appreciated.

Depending on WHEN someone wanted to put Druitt into said spotlight. And WHEN someone worked out that a suicide at the end of the year was a perfect blind link to the Whitechapel Murderer scenario. Especially someone unheard of.

          Good old Dan Farson.

            loose tounges

All it would take is for one police officer to repeat gossip he heard from a member of the general public and next minute because it's come from a police man it must be genuine

...You know you had a chance to write the real story of the 'Diary' and you didn't take it, and that's a shame--though only about a minor sideshow of this subject.
              Hi Jonathan,

I must say that your unerring ability to get hold of the wrong end of the stick is unlikely to do you any favours where Druitt is concerned.

If anyone knows the 'real' story behind the diary I would be delighted to see them get on and write it and put the bloody thing to bed. I'm flattered that you think I know something I don't, but it only demonstrates once again just how easily your instincts can deceive you.

              Love,

                  What do you mean, Jonathan?

You made two contradictory statements about my position: a) that I have been made a fool of by modern fakers and b) I had a chance to write the real story but didn't take it.

Not only is it impossible for both those statements to be true, but what you say implies that you know what the real story is and therefore you are the one keeping the truth from poor ignorant fools like me, Keith Skinner and pretty much everyone else on the planet.

If you really have discovered who wrote the diary and when, and are not telling whacking great porkies, I'm sure you could make a few bob out of spilling the beans. If you find the idea morally repugnant you could always give the money to charity. Surely that would be better than keeping silent and protecting the guilty.

Or maybe you actually know bugger all?

                  Love,

                  Caz

So that's a 'no' to giving the truth even a tiny bit of oxygen.

I'm not referring to the modern hoax that took you for a ride and still does.

                    But then you know that.

Sorry Jonathan, you are too cryptic for me.

If I am still being taken for a ride by modern hoaxers, I can hardly have been in the best position to write the 'real' story of the diary, now can I?

So what 'truth' am I meant to know, that I'm not telling?

I appreciate all the kisses though.

                      Love you too,

Sorry Albert but I'd suggest that three kisses on the bottom goes way beyond even the generally accepted terms implicit in the word "serious"...

                          All the best

                              I wonder?

I just wonder whether Abberline had heard of the Druitt family given the proximity of Blandford to Wimbourne. The Druitt's were well known in the area and I don't think Abberline left for London until his late teens.

Both would have been small towns back then and the name Druitt surely would have meant something to Abberline when it came up.

                              2 + 2 = conspiracy theory anyone?

                              Best

I'm really late here I know, but interestingly Abberline is actually buried near members of Druitt's family.
