A rare illustration from 1854/55 when Queen Victoria visited and spent the night at the Hotel.
The Royal Family had the entire floor to themselves, but the Queen insisted her children sleep on "camp beds", the nanny taking the actual bed.
Shortly before the visit the windows on the floor were tainted purple as the Queen was suffering with an eye condition.

Prince Eddy, and Prince Albert have also been guests at the Hotel. (as have Laurel and Hardy and Derek Acorah!!!)

                            Hi Mike,

I like your photos and news articles, but the latter are hard to read. Even when scanned properly newspaper print of that period is small and difficult to decipher.

                            But the pictures were great.

                            Jeff

                              Hi Jeff

I am glad you like them, the hotel has a special place in my heart and I love visiting and sitting in the Victorian lounge.

The newspapers from that period are awful, especially when you are sat watching them on a rear lit screen, I often get headaches and now I have to limit my time on them.

I have a lot of colour pictures I took of the building during last summer but they are on a disk and I seem to have misplaced it!
                              Regards Mike
