It's interesting that Fido believed that Anderson's Polish Jewish suspect and the man that Macnaughten called "Kosminsky" were the same person even before anyone knew about the Swanson Marginalia.

I assume I am not the first to suggest this possibility. It seems at least a possibility that David Cohen might be an alias chosen to protect the true family name, at the behest of the family itself or even the police. There is plenty of reason to doubt a connection to Kaminsky, and Aaron Kosminski has his distinct record during his commitment. Cohen could be a false name registered for reasons other than Martin Fido's original "John Doe" theory. Cohen does fit the Anderson and Swanson description pretty well in terms of the timeline of being committed and of his death, as best I recall. If he did have a different real name, there may be no surviving record to reveal it.

Cohen was said to be violent, but nothing specific about towards women.

Mac claimed his Kos was violent and hated women.

Kaminsky is not on any asylum records , so I assume the program as simply mixed all the comment together. Sadly this happens all too often with Anderson's suspect .

As to your last question, Cohen and Aaron Kosminski were both in Colney Hatch, but as far as we know, Nathan Kaminski was not.

From Casebook, 2005. It's possible Nathan Kazminski was Nathan Libermann. I believe it wasn't unusual for people, being treated for syphilis, to adopt a surname while receiving treatment.

I don't remember Chris Scott ever taking this further, but the reason he couldn't find Nathan Liberman in later UK Census returns is because the family emigrated to the U.S.A. and settled in Syracuse, New York (and later, Topeka, Kansas).






His wife now goes by 'Jenny,' but you can see the sons Morris and David were born in England in 1888/1891.

The census states the family emigrated in 1890, but this is an obvious discrepancy because the son David was born in England in March 1891, and Chris found them at 9 Black Lion Yard in the 1891 UK census (April).

Chris reported that Liberman's wife was either Milly Goldpinkus or Jani Capland.

The death record for one of the sons (David) lists his mother's maiden name as Jennie Copland.
