William Bury: Jack the Ripper

Hi Chubbs,

I don’t know if you’re aware of this site but it’s the repository for info on Bury. It’s an excellent site. My only qualm is that the site tends to speak from a position that Bury’s guilt as the ripper has been proven when it clearly hasn’t. He’s a very interesting and valid suspect though (unlike non-starters like Cross)

Thanks Herlock - yes I've been reading stuff on that very good site over the past couple of days. Do you have any idea if photos of Bury and/or Ellen are in existence? I like to know what these people look like.

There are no photos I’m afraid Chubbs. It’s a pity Aethelwulf isn’t still posting on here as he was very knowledgeable about Bury. He posts on JtRForums as Bern Icia.

They have also done some fabulous hand writing comparisons. To a layman like myself it's neigh on certain Bury wrote some of the Ripper letters. The comparisons are great, I'd suggest you go check out the hard work done on them.

Done that already! I've made a single, really long jpg file of all those examples of handwriting, so I can do side-by-side comparisons and as Wyatt Earp keeps reminding us, it's inconclusive. Trust me, I've spent a few hours over the past few days comparing them. At one point I found I'd been comparing the Rev Dott's genuine handwriting with the Lusk letter and getting a good match!!!!!! Yes, I've got a new suspect
