would the entrance to millers court be slightly off the photo to our right?
No, as has been stated, this photo was taken from the western end of Dorset Street looking towards Commercial Street. Millers Court would be a little way beyond the third gaslight on the left.
You know, it's too bad that things like work get in the way of the more important things in life. I've just gotten back to this thread and appreciate the info, boys. It's nice to have that issue settled.
Are we sure that this shot was taken from the western end of Dorset Street? Rumbelow and Aliffe got into a tiny tiff about this photo in Baltimore. Don thought it was looking east, and Andy thought it was looking west. No one wanted to disagree publicly with Don but, privately, some people voiced the opinion that, if you were looking east, you would see Itchy Park at the end of the block. What appears to be in the background, however, are the buildings on Crispin Street.
... is taken from Crispen st end looking east. You wouldnt see Itchy park as the buildings on the left obscure it. Confusion arises today cos people assume the current street runs along the same line as Dorset st, it doesnt, Dorset was further south, very near to the car park.
The left half of the background (end of street)does in fact, depict Itchy Park !!!
The right half depicts a building that remains to this day; but, which is no longer visible when looking eastward along what was the middle of Dorset Street.

The building on the left is the one seen at the end of Dorset Street, in the 1902 photo. The building on the right was The Queen's Head.
Wow Colin, the angle from above ex-Dorset St is an unusual one! Frikking good actually!
I wonder how you managed that, though....by getting into the Crispin St shelter or just hovering?
