      I was wondering what the relevance of the photograph was and now I know. Your initial question Gary sounds like it should end with a ?

          It’s not a very clear photo, but he looks familiar.

          (He’s not my ancestor, BTW.)

                    Well he was Jewish. His wife Julia's (nee Abrahams) family was married into the Salmon & Gluckstein families (of tobacco fame). Their shop was just a few doors away at the Aldgate Station.
